









Relevant departments, associations, and business operators are jointly working to restore hotel operations in Mandalay after the earthquake. On 5th September, Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and Hotels and Tourism Jeng Phang Naw Taung inspected the Ministry-owned and private hotels, together with Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung and concerned officials.
During the inspection, they heard reports on renovation of earthquake-damaged facilities, service provisions, operational status, plans for rising tourist demand and challenges faced. In response, the Union Minister urged the officials to expand hotel operations for the open season, attract more domestic and foreign tourists, restore earthquake-damaged facilities to meet set standards and issue up-to-date disaster information for guests, as well as maintain hotel landscapes in harmony with city characteristics.
During the meeting with officials from hotels and tourism associations, the Union Minister urged stronger public-private partnerships, smooth tourist travel, tourism promotion, speedy hotel recovery after the earthquake, and human resource development in the sector.
This was followed by the sector-wise reports on work implementation, ongoing issues and challenges. The Union Minister also met with the staff of the Mandalay Directorate of Hotels and Tourism. During the meeting, he urged better public services under prescribed civil service law, and stronger public-private partnerships for industry development.
