Four Bengal tigers living in a train carriage in Argentina have finally begun their long journey to a new suitable home. The Four Paws international organization, known for rescuing wild animals around the world, moved the tigers from the carriage in San Luis on Thursday.

From there, they made the long journey to Buenos Aires where they were put on a plane for South Africa. The tigers will eventually be released in the 12 square kilometers Lions Rock Big Cat Sanctuary. Two of the animals were abandoned by a travelling circus 15 years ago.

The circus asked a local rancher to care for them and then took off, never to return.  Despite living in a cramped space behind bars, the tigers mated and had two cubs; they are now 10-years-old and have only known life inside the railcar.

It was not until 2021 that local authorities in San Luis became aware of the situation and began looking for a solution.
