





The 4th Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation hosted by Malaysia was held via Video Conferencing at 1 p.m. on January 21 and attended by Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi.
First, the energy and natural resources minister of host Malaysia and chair of Global Tiger Forum agriculture and forest minister of Bhutan delivered opening remark and the ministers from the Tiger range countries gave the speech.
In his speech, the Union Minister said that Myanmar included the tiger range countries committed the tiger recovery plan and the possible tiger habitat area is 49000 square kilometers (7% of country’s land) and there are four areas that can be most tigers habitat. There are two national level programs including national level tiger conservation work plan and the restoration of original wildlife habit work plan.
In the national level tiger conservation work plan, the national level tiger conservation plan was drafted and implemented to double wild tiger number in line with the St. Petersburg Declaration on Tiger Conservation “Tigers Times Two”.
Regarding with the restoration of original wildlife habit work plan, there are two main tasks including restoration of original wildlife habit and addressing the conservation and protection and stepping up the wildlife conservation.
According to the survey through the trapped camera, the tigers number increased from 22 to 25. The tiger pray animals are increasing and the tiger number can be from 35 to 70 in Myanmar accordin to the survey and estimate of World Bank.
The country’s tiger conservation is being implemented with four prioritized tasks putting “Southeast Asia Tiger Recovery Action Plan” as one phase of work plan in Myanmar. This ministerial level conference facilitates to enhance the cooperation and the driving force to raise the developing policy among the heads of states in the national level tiger conservation.
Through the collaboration, the common goal for the conservation of wild tigers, their original habit and biodiversity is believed.
Afterward, the prime Minister of Malaysia delivered a speech of conclusion and joint-statement of kuala lumpur declaration on tiger conservation, Tiger Recovery Action Plan in South East Asia Region and the assessment of financial resources were issued.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia hosted the conference and the respective ministers and representatives from 13 Tiger range countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam attended the conference.
