Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said it will resume power generation at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant in central Japan, as early as Sunday. The resumption includes transmission and follows a temporary suspension blamed on a faulty alarm system.
The No.6 reactor at the plant was initially reactivated in January and was undergoing a test run, when an alarm went off on March 12. Two days later, the company suspended power generation at the reactor. TEPCO said damage to an alarm system component caused the alert.
After further investigation of the part, it found a crack in the component from metal fatigue. TEPCO suspects the generator’s vibration is a cause of the metal fatigue. The utility said on Thursday it will replace the component.
