Swollen Ayeyawady: Schools Temporarily Closed In Tada-U And Myinmu

The water level of Ayeyawady River at Tada-U Township has exceeded to 1,258 cm, 27 cm above its danger mark until 22nd July Monday.

Due to swollen Ayeyawady River, the basic education schools in Tada-U Township have been closed temporarily and people from wards/village-tracts have moved to safer places, according to the Township General Administrative Office.

The water level of Ayeyawady River has swollen at Tada-U Township as of 19th July. The township Education Officer said although the schools have been closed temporarily because of swelling Ayeywaday River, they will arrange extra-teaching time for the temporary closed schools when the water falls.

4,365 people of 1,118 households from 17 wards/village-tracts in the Township and more than 1,200 animals have been evacuated to safer places such as monasteries and their relative houses.

Likewise, 5 basic education schools have been temporarily closed in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region as of 21st July because of inflow of Ayeyawady River.

According to the Township Education Officer Office, the closed schools are two primary schools, one post primary school and two middle schools near Ayeyawady River Bank. 846 students are pursuing education at these schools and the concerned departments are now jointly undertaking measures not to disrupt in the students’ learning.

The danger level of Ayeyawady River at Myinmu is 1,150 m and the water level reaches at 1,146-m there until Sunday.
