South Korea Coast Guard has introduced motorized surfboards for rescuing people at sea. Beomseom Island in Seogwipo on Jeju Island draws scores of holiday-makers looking to enjoy marine leisure activities in summer.

A man who has fallen into water while fishing waves his hand to notify rescue workers of his location. A Coast Guard official gets on a board and sets out to rescue him. It takes less than 30 seconds to cover more than 100meter.

The rescue operation is carried out much faster when the rescue workers ride boards than swim. Despite the rough waves, a rescue worker quickly arrives at the scene on a board to rescue a person drifting in the water. The rescue drill using motorized surfboards that were introduced by the Korea Coast Guard last year.
