
Yangon City Development Committee pledged to spend about 17.8 million kyats budget during 2019-2020 FY to address on the clearance of stray dogs in Yangon Region.
People shared their hopes for the systematic arrangements on the clearance of the danger of stray dogs in Yangon.
Public, Myo Myo Oo said “Stray dogs are very dangerous for the public. As my personal opinion, it's good to know the officials taking actions on the clearance of the stray dogs. I understand that there are people who against this actions. But we need to think on the safety of the people. It will be of great if the officials can build up more dog shelters and send those stray dogs there rather than poisoned. And it will be greater if the officials can promote on the vaccination activities.”
Public, Yan Paing said “It’s okay whether we have stray dogs or not. But it will be of great if we have less stray dogs in the city. I wish the officials to promote the free vaccination programs and build up more dog shelters in the region.”
Officials from the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) added their current techniques to deal with the stray dogs issues and highlighted on the promotion of the responsible pet ownership.
Committee Member (10), YCDC, Nan Su Shwe Zin said “We have all the data for the stray dogs that we captured. And over 700 stray dogs that we captured, we able to send them to the dog shelter. We’re also promoting responsible pet ownership in all parts of Yangon Region. We open a registration office for the dog ownership. Moreover, we even went to each township and homes of those people who would like to register for their pets if the people and the administrators of the township request. Currently, we are using six techniques to control the city’s dog population that is also accepted by the international including vaccination and sterilization program, promoting responsible pet ownership, poisoning and sending dangerous dogs to shelters.”
In Yangon, only 7000 of dogs are registered while there are estimated 200,000 dogs in the region, official said.
