Statement issued: MNHRC issued a statement No. (4/2022)

The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission issued a statement no (4/2022) on 18th November, 2022.

The statement stated that the Chairman of the State Administration Council issued Order No. 70/ 2022, 71/ 2022, 72/ 2022,73/ 2022, and 74/ 2022 on 17 November 2022, under which a total of 5774 prisoners serving sentences in respective prisons, jails and camps, and other five prisoners have been pardoned. Furthermore, the cases opened against 11 artists have been allowed to be withdrawn, and the prison sentences of four foreign prisoners have been remitted and they have been deported.

These humanitarian actions of the Chairman are the steps in the right direction. Despite the expressions of different motives underlying these actions, the stark facts remain that the relevant families are certainly pleased to be reunited with their family members. The Commission hopes that similar positive steps will be taken in the future as well in the interest of peace, development, and stability of the nation.
