The state funeral of former US President Jimmy Carter is due to take place in Washington D.C. on January 9, after two days of lying in state at the US Capitol.

Carter died on December 29 at the age of 100. He served a single term as U.S.

President from 1977 to 1981, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his humanitarian work after his time in office.

U.S. Navy F/A-18E/F Super Hornets are scheduled to conduct a 21-aircraft missing man flyover in memory of the former president on January 9.
