Sri Lankan Navy Intercepts Fishing Trawlers In Narcotics Operation

On Sunday, Sri Lankan naval and law enforcement authorities have intercepted two multi-day fishing trawlers in deep seas off the southern coast, detaining 11 suspects in connection with a large-scale narcotics trafficking operation.  

Upon boarding and inspection, both fishing trawlers were deemed suspicious and subsequently escorted to Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour for detailed examination. According to Deputy Minister of Defence, authorities have so far recovered over 280 kilograms of narcotics concealed aboard the vessels, with a street value estimated to exceed Rs. 4,500 million.
