


The opening ceremony of Singapore Festival 2020 was held at Chin Tsong Palace in Yangon on Saturday.
Organized by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) with the support of Myanmar’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Department of Archaeology and the State School of Fine Arts, the 2-day festival aims to create community involvement and cultural exchanges and to get the visitors a taste of the diverse lifestyle.
Director, Trade Engagement & New Market (STB), Soo Siew Keong said “This year board is about garden party concept to the Chin Tsong Palace. You will see later that the whole beauty has been transform. For us different between the street and here is that this is the state school of fine arts. So, the reason why for this year festival that it is a strong component on art. The art is created y both Myanmar people as well as Singapore artists… the festival is not only about the Singapore but is how Singapore can work with the people of Myanmar to find the connection and let to Myanmar people find their passions and discover the interest through this festivals.”
The previous Singapore Festival in 2018 was held on Bogalayzay Street taking the form of street party. This 2020 edition features creative collaboration among traditional dishes from both Myanmar and Singapore, with live acoustic bands and DJs, fashion brands and arts.
Artist, Nicola Anthony said “This sculpture is a parham in fact that two parhams- one in English, one in Burmese. The parhams are all about the lives of people who living in Singapore and people who live in Myanmar and connecting them together. I think the message is about being interested in other places, other people, and other cultures, the similarities between Myanmar and Singapore, the beautiful and poetic teams we can find in everyday life.”
The Singapore Festival 2020 is set to run till the 2nd of February 2020 in Chin Tsong Palace compound in Yangon.
