Signing ceremony: Myanmar and Sri Lanka signed agreement for export of rice

The ceremony of signing Bilateral Agreement between the Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar and the Ministry of Trade of Sri Lanka for rice export from Myanmar to Sri Lanka under G to G system was held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Commerce on Friday through Virtual System and the Minister for Trade of Sri Lanka Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana and Union Minister Dr. Pwint Hsan gave remarks.The Union Minister Dr. Pwint Hsan said that this ceremony of signing is an initial implementation to boost export of agricultural products including rice and other products under G to G system between Myanmar and Sri lanka.

It’s invited for tourism industry and investment sector which are beneficial for both countries and the economic cooperation between the two countries is constantly welcomed.The Minister for Trade of Sri Lanka said that the diplomatic relation between Myanmar and Sri Lanka has been commenced since 1949.

It’s very thankful for selling rice which is staple diet of Sri Lanka and for facilitating food security of the country under such a G to G system and the cooperation in trade and investment between the two countries will be continued in the future.Next, Myanmar-Sri Lanka Rice Exporting Bilateral Agreement was signed by the director-general of the Department of Trade Promotion and Consumers Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Joint-Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Trade of Sri Lanka.

The bilateral agreement will be implemented by Myanmar Rice Federation and Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation and 100,000 tons of white rice and 50,000 tons of parboiled rice will be exported Sri Lanka yearly during 2022 and 2023.

The signing ceremony was attended by the deputy minister for commerce, Myanmar Ambassador to Sri Lanka, senior officials, chairman and members of Myanmar Rice Federation and Sri Lankan delegation led by the Minister of Trade.
