Signing Ceremony: Agreement of Cooperation on Projects of LMCSF signed

The signing ceremony of the Agreement of Cooperation on Projects of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund (2026) was held on 28May at the M-Gallery Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw.

The Agreement was signed by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of China to Myanmar in the presence of Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe.

At the ceremony, Union Minister U Tin Maung Swe delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the significance of the signing ceremony as 2026 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.

He appreciated China for its consistent support to the Mekong countries through the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund (LMCSF). He recognized that the LMCSF has been instrumental in implementing people-centered development projects, and has significantly contributed to the socioeconomic development of the people in the region.

Since 2017, Myanmar received 140 projects which value 40.46 million USD. For 2026, Myanmar will implement 8 projects, and these projects will contribute to the country’s efforts in promoting agriculture, energy, environmental conservation and water resource management, MSME development and cultural cooperation.

The Union Minister reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to working closely with China and other member countries to promote peace, prosperity, sustainability and inclusive development in the region.  Ms. Ma Jia, Ambassador of China to Myanmar, also delivered the remarks.

The Mekong-Lancang Cooperation is a sub-regional cooperation mechanism which was officially launched in 2016 with the aim to promote sustainable and inclusive regional development among six member countries namely Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.
