Shandong earthquake update

A total of 24 people have been injured and 126 buildings collapsed in the 5.5-magnitude earthquake that struck Pingyuan County in east China's Shandong Province earlier Sunday. The quake hit the county in Dezhou City with a focal depth of 10 km.

It was followed by 52 aftershocks. The adobe buildings in the earthquake zone, which are up to 40 years old, were apparently not strong enough to withstand a 5.5-magnitude earthquake. Officials say most of the injuries reported were minor, and more than half of those treated in hospitals had been released by the end of the day.
