Shaikthaunghmyauk Festival: Rakhine Traditional Festival Held In Sittwe Beach

Organized by ThakiMandaing Rakhine Cultural Association, Rakhine traditional Shaikthaunghmyauk festival equivalent to Bamar traditional sand pagoda festival was held at Sittwe Hotel Beach at 1 p.m. on 16th March (full moon day of Dabaung month).

Rakhine traditional Shaikthaunghmyauk festival is usually held on the full moon day of Dabaung month (during March) and it is organized on the Sittwe Beach and Ngapali Beach in Thandwe Township.

ThakiMandaing Rakhine Cultural Association is reviving and organizing Rakhine traditional cultural festivals with the aim at Rakhine future generation to treasure and preserve the traditional and cultural heritages. Shaikthaunghmyauk festival is one of them.

During festival, the participants sculpted stupas and Buddha images formed with sand at their disposal. The participants cultivate the merits by offering the offertories such as flowers, pennants, paper dossals etc. to the sand stupas and Buddha images sculpted by them.

This year festival, the royal drum troupe of ThakiMandaing Rakhine Cultural Association and other troupes play in their troupe’s uniform and participated in the festival with the festival participants happily, it’s reported.
