The Security Council unanimously adopted on 21 February a resolution on the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.

France, the penholder on the DRC, authored the draft resolution. Addressing the Security Council after the vote, French Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said, “There is not military solution to the conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and added that the priority is to reach an effective, unconditional, and immediate ceasefire agreement.”
