Children in southwestern Japan got an opportunity to view sea turtles' initial swim into the sea

. The turtles had been under human care since immediately after they hatched. The children and their parents gathered at a beach in Amami City, Kagoshima Prefecture, on Sunday to see three loggerhead sea turtles' introduction to the ocean.

The largest one is about 70 centimeters long. Aquarium official Sasaki Shota said the population of loggerhead sea turtles has been declining, and he wants to think what humans can do to protect them. Amami Oshima Island, where Amami City is located, is a major spawning site of sea turtles in Japan.
