Russia welcomes Indonesia’s joining BRICS

Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement through its official Telegram account on Thursday that “the Russian Federation welcomes the Republic of Indonesia’s full membership in BRICS, which began on January 1, 2025.”

Russia unveiled Indonesia’s journey of becoming a member of the economic forum.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Indonesia’s candidacy was submitted and tentatively approved during the 2023 Johannesburg Summit in South Africa, when the group began its initial process of expansion.

However, in light of Indonesia’s forthcoming Presidential Election in 2024, Indonesia decided not to file its official bid until the new head of state was elected and a new government was appointed.
