Romuald Wadagni sworn in as Benin's new President

Romuald Wadagni officially took the oath of office in the capital Cotonou on Sunday, becoming the 9th President of Benin. Wadagni secured a landslide victory in the April 12, 2026 presidential election, capturing over 94% of the vote.

Prior to the presidency, he spent a decade as Benin's Minister for Economy and Finance, where he led significant economic reforms that achieved around 7 % economic growth. As a President, Wadagni promised to focus on the expansion of the Port of Cotonou, agro-industry, regional stability, and continuing the infrastructure initiatives established by the outgoing Talon administration.
