Farmers in the Mekong Delta can now boost their income by selling a new product: carbon credits.
This not only provides a new source of income for farmers but also an opportunity to enhance Vietnam's competitiveness in the agricultural sector.
In the Mekong Delta, many farmers are adopting rice cultivation with reduced greenhouse gas emissions. According to the Director of Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute, meeting carbon emission requirements will increase the credibility of Vietnam's rice industry and the price of Vietnamese rice will also rise.
If Vietnamese farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions and do not use their entire emissions quota, they can sell the surplus to other countries or organizations to generate additional income.
