US tech firm Microsoft has announced on Tuesday that they will invest 2.9 billion dollars in Japan over the next two years to boost AI.
The plans include expanding facilities in Tokyo and Osaka to increase data center capacity crucial for generative AI. The company also plans to set up a research base in Tokyo. The aim is to help improve productivity and address Japan's socioeconomic issues through AI and robotics.
The company also aims to foster AI talent by training 3 million full-time and part-time workers over the next three years. The firm says it will provide AI skilling programs for women and professional training for AI developers. Microsoft is also expected to strengthen collaboration with the Japanese government on cybersecurity, including information sharing.
