Residents in embattled Tigray celebrate ceasefire

Residents in the Tigray region celebrating the cease fire and arrival of the Tigrayan Defence Forces (TDF) in the capital Mekele and in the town of Shire. 

The street celebrations came after the news that the federal government declared an immediate, unilateral cease-fire Monday in its Tigray region after nearly eight months of deadly conflict. Tigray fighters occupied the regional capital and government soldiers retreated in a region where hundreds of thousands are suffering in the world's worst famine crisis.
