Researchers eye AI revolution in natural disaster forecasts

Researchers in Switzerland are utilizing the Alps supercomputer and NASA data to revolutionize natural disaster forecasting. Scientists at ETH Zurich and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre copied around six billion NASA files onto servers next to the Alps supercomputer.

They believed that the system could aim to spot hidden patterns in satellite data to flag geological disasterssuch as landslides and glacier collapseslong before they happen.
