Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Aung Zeya visited the Renewable Energy and Electronic Technology Research Center under the Department of Research and Innovation in Yangon on January 17.

He reviewed the research works on solar and wind powered energy projects, and urged for efficient utilization of research outcomes. The Center is conducting research activities on renewable energy technologies, using wind and solar power systems. Small-scale wind power research is underway using wind energy, generated from a wind tunnel, including testing of vertical axis helical-design wind turbines.

In addition, solar energy research and demonstrations are being conducted at a solar exhibition center established under the Mekong–Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2022). The center showcases various solar panels and solar systems, solar EV charging stations, and smart city technologies.

Further research includes testing solar-powered water pumping systems and a low-cost portable solar dryer developed in collaboration with Yangon West Technological University. The solar dryer aims to support MSME development by enabling small-scale, solar-powered drying of agricultural products.
