Rescue operations ongoing after 90 killed in China coal mine blast

The Friday’s incident killed at least 90 people following a massive gas explosion at the Liushenyu coal mine in Shanxi Province, China. The tragic incident occurred while 247 workers were underground. Authorities reported that at least 123 miners were sent to the hospital for varying injuries and carbon monoxide exposure.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered authorities to spare no effort in the ongoing search and rescue efforts, treat the injured, and strictly investigate those responsible. While over 150 miners were evacuated, large-scale search and rescue operations remain ongoing for the missing.
