





Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant, who also chairs the Buildings Restoration, Utilisation, and New Buildings Construction Supervision Committee, inspected repair and reconstruction works along the Mandalay–Naypyitaw section of Yangon–Mandalay Expressway, which was damaged by the recent Mandalay earthquake.
The Union Minister reviewed the reconstruction of the 700 feet long Duttawadi Bridge, which collapsed during the March 28 quake. Officials explained details of the new earthquake-resistant bridge design, soil testing, and ongoing foundation works as well as the repair progress of damaged road sections and upcoming work plans.
The Union Minister instructed to speed up completion, ensure strong earthquake-resistant design standards, and maintain high construction quality in accordance with national codes. He also inspected the Myitsutchaung Bridge, whihc is under repair.
They inspected temporary supports installed to maintain traffic flow and reviewed road approach repairs. He then inspected asphalt concrete paving works and instructed to ensure proper compaction and thickness for road durability.
They later visited the Yuzana Bridge on the old Yangon–Mandalay road, where one side collapsed due to the earthquake. The bridge is being rebuilt using High Damping Rubber Bearings and earthquake-resistant concrete piles, with supervision to ensure fast and quality completion.
