Regional Cooperation : Global South Media and Think Tank Forum

2025 Global South Media and Think Tank Forum took place in Kunming of Yunnan Province in China on Saturday.

Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended the forum, together with officials from Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and Yunnan Provincial Committee, government representatives from South and Southeast Asian countries, media personnel, technical know-how and invited guests.

The event featured cultural performance of ethnics from Yunnan Province, and display of local products and ancient arts. The forum commenced with the screening of a video clip, followed by the discussions on cooperation among the Global South Media.

Then, the representatives from the rescue team from Yunnan Province who arrived earliest in Myanmar after the March 28 earthquake and an official from Myanmar Fire Services Department recounted their experience during the rescue measures.

In the afternoon session, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn made a speech, highlighting the advancement of technology and its impact in media sector. He called for cooperation among the Global South countries for effective use of technology in media and narrowing down the digital divide. This was followed by signing of the Letter of Intent on media cooperation and approval for cooperation among six media outlets including MRTV and YMG.

In the evening, the Union Minister participated in the Yunnan-Myanmar News Cooperation Meeting, and discussed matters on promoting cooperation between the media from Yunnan and Myanmar, exchange of information, sharing broadcast technologies and collaboration in print media.
