






Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing received U Soe Htet (also known as Salai Mei Lu ), Chairman of the Chin State Congress Party, and his delegation on July 13 in the meeting hall of the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, Union Minister U Myint Kyaing explained the implementation of the 2014 and 2024 Population and Housing Censuses, the coordination undertaken with relevant departments in compiling voter lists by region and state for the previous election, and the current status of the designation of ethnic group names in Myanmar.
He also discussed the differences in ethnic nomenclature arising from variations in the homelands, languages, and writing systems of the country's ethnic groups, the work plans for accurately standardizing the names and terminology of ethnic groups, and the assistance that the Ministry would provide in accordance with established procedures to support this process.
Following this, Chairman of the Chin State Congress Party, U Soe Htet, and the other participants explained the differences in the names and terminology used for ethnic groups among the Chin and Rakhine communities in Chin State and Rakhine State, the measures being undertaken to establish accurate and standardized ethnic designations, and areas in which the Ministry's assistance would be required.
The Union Minister coordinated the necessary follow-up actions in response to the presentations. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister and other responsible officials from the Ministry. Also in attendance, together with the Chairman of the Chin State Congress Party, were the Vice Chairpersons of the Khumi National Party and the Khami National Development Party, as well as representatives from literary and cultural committees and social organizations.
