On the evening of September 26, at around 8:30 PM, terrorists detonated a mine targeting the railway track between milepost 121/20-21 on the Bago-Mawlamyaing railway line, located between Thein Seik Station and Don Wun Station in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State.
The explosion damaged the railway, and it was learned that the section between Thein Seik and Don Wun was temporarily closed in the morning on September 27. When local authorities and security forces conducted clearance and inspection operations at the explosion site, they found that the eastern railway track was severed at one location for about 1.5 feet, and a rail plate about 1.5 feet long was broken off at another spot approximately 3 feet away, confirming the damage to the railway.
Myanmar Railways staff began repair work at 10:10 AM to reopen the line as quickly as possible. They cut out and replaced the damaged rail sections and carried out track repairs. The work was completed by 11:15 AM, and the Thein Seik-Don Wun railway section was reopened at 11:35 AM.
Train services have now resumed normal operations. Due to this mine explosion, Down Train No. 82, which departed on time from Mawlamyaing with 401 passengers, had to stop and wait at Thanbyuzayat Station, arriving at 10:32 AM. It resumed its journey at 11:20 AM, causing a delay of approximately 45 minutes for the passengers.
