Qinghai Lake, China's largest inland saltwater lake, continued to expand in 2022 thanks to the abundant rainfall in the upper reaches of the Yellow River and Yangtze River in Qinghai Province, according to the provincial government.

In 2022, the amount of self-produced surface water resources in the Yellow River Basin in Qinghai was one percent more than the average value of the hydrological time series from 1956 to 2016, and that in the Yangtze River Basin was 10.9 percent more than the average.

According to the report, the water level of Qinghai Lake rose by 11 centimeters in 2022, and averaged 3196.57 meters during the 12-month period with water storage in the lake growing by 500 million cubic meters.
