


Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Mr. Bendito dos Santos Freitas paid a working visit to Myanmar from 17 to 19 September.
During the visit, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and the visiting Minister held discussion on bilateral matters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 18 September.
At the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers underlined the importance of upholding the fundamental principles of ASEAN and the ASEAN Charter, particularly non-interference in the internal affairs of member States. They also pledged to promote diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Timor-Leste.
Moreover, Timor-Leste officially proposed Myanmar Government to open an Embassy in the capital city, Dili. Timor-Leste reaffirmed its commitment not to allow the activities of illegal organizations against the Myanmar Government, as well as opening office in Timor-Leste.
In consideration of the interests of the two countries and the peoples, the Foreign Ministers discussed the signing of bilateral agreements on visa exemption for the holders of diplomatic and official passports and visa waiver for Tourism purposes. These agreements are to be signed among the ASEAN member States.
