Pregnant elephant in India dies after being allegedly fed with firecracker-stuffed pineapple

A pregnant elephant in district of south India's Kerala state died after she was allegedly fed with pineapple laden with firecrackers, local media reported. The elephant strayed from Silent Valley National Park looking for food and some locals reportedly gave the mammal a pineapple stuffed with firecrackers that burst in its mouth which led to severe injuries in its lower jaw.

The elephant later collapsed into a nearby stream and locals were unsuccessful in their attempts to rescue the elephant. Locals attempted to rescue the elephant but were unsuccessful. The incident that took place on May 27 has ignited outcry on social media.
