Pope Francis ends two-day visit to Malta

Pope Francis ended a two-day visit to Malta on Sunday after seeking to drive home his call for Europe to show compassion to would-be refugees who cross the Mediterranean Sea from Libya.

On the last hours of his visit to the island, Francis visited a shelter run by volunteers that can house around 50 migrants and provide them with educational and medical services. The pope's trip was also marked by his concern for the devastation unleashed by Russia’s military operation, expressing his gratitude to the welcome shown to refugees in Europe but hoping the same generosity could be extended to others.
