The Plenary Session of the World Atomic Week “It all starts with the atom” took place at VDNKh Center in Moscow on September 26. Myanmar delegation attended the session with the Head of Rosatom State Corporation and the Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency-IAEA among the Speakers.

The session discussed the opportunities and challenges for the countries in developing peaceful use of nuclear energy. It also highlighted the importance of public education in developing nuclear energy efficiently. [Soundbite] In March 2025, the Russian Federation and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar signed an intergovernmental agreement on the principles of cooperation for the construction of a land-based low-power nuclear power plant (SMR).

The agreement regulates the terms and main directions of interaction between the parties in implementing the SMR project with a capacity of 110 MW, with the possibility of future expansion to 330 MW, and represents an important stage in the development of the Russia-Myanmar partnership in nuclear energy. [Soundbite] Russia is hosting a week-long programme to mark its 80th anniversary of the nuclear industry with the presence of more than 20,000 participants.
