Pilgrimage In Rakhine: People Visit Historic Pagodas In Mrauk-U

During Myanmar traditional Mahar Thingyan New Year festival period, there are so many crowded with visitors at the Point beach, Sittwe Township and Sittwe Hotel Beach. 

Normally, the visitors visit those beaches to relax on Sunday but during like this Public holidays, the visitors from various districts and townships, families from village and wards come to relax and play water. During New Year Holidays, some go to Pagodas and monasteries, some hold   Ceremony of Novitiation or Shin Pyu Ceremony and also there are those who work for their basic needs and the people who are throwing water.

The residents from Min Bya, Myay Pon, Pauk Taw ,Kyauktaw, Sittwe and Ponnagyun Township  come to pay homage the famous ancient pagodas in Mrauk- U Township of Rakhine State. The pilgrims from different regions  look around the 550 Jataka stories that serve to instruct moral behavior which carve on the wall of ShittThaung Pahtodawgyi   and study how to  wear headband and tie hair in a knot and artwork of sculptures.

In addition, they pay homage with hire vehicles to Yadana Man aung, Thakkya Man aung, lawka Man Aung, Mingala Man Aung and Zina Man Aung.

The Pilgrims offer water, candles and flowers at the Pagodas.  The ancient historic places- LetSe Lake, Payapaw Pagoda and Nan Tawyar Hill and historical research national museum are popular among the people who took pictures and buy souvenirs.
