Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was welcomed by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Thursday during his five-day official visit to Tokyo. The two leaders were expected to sign key agreements to boost their defense ties. A defense arrangement is one of the most crucial deals to be signed later on Thursday.
It would allow Japanese troops to join more training exercises and respond to natural disasters in the Philippines. Marcos also met with Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. The Japanese government hopes that their visit to Japan will further deepen bilateral ties. Marcos will also join talks with trade and business officials and leaders from the two sides before returning home on Sunday.
