Residents of a coastal village in Bangladesh’s southern district have started rebuilding their makeshift houses in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, which made landfall in low-lying Bangladesh and neighbouring India on Sunday evening and killed at least 64 people across two countries.

Cyclones hit Bangladesh and India each year, but the number of superstorms hitting the densely populated coast has increased sharply. However, better forecasting and more effective evacuation planning have dramatically reduced death tolls.
