Peace Process: SG receives NMSP peace delegation

Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received a peace delegation led by Vice-Chairman Nai Aung Min of the New Mon State Party-NMSP at Bayint Naung villa in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday.

At the meeting, the Senior General said that the 2022 has been announced as the year of peace and discussed the invitation to discuss political differences without any restrictions, implementation of peace process based on the 2018 State Constitution and the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), practicing a genuine, discipline-flourishing multiparty democracy, efforts for building a Union based on democracy and federalism as a political goal and requests of ethnic armed organizations in the peace talks.

The Senior General called for making discussion with far sightedness for the interests of the Union as the matters that are really necessary and appropriate for the region and the country will be discussed openly. Later, the Vice Chairman of the NMSP and members expressed thanks for having opportunity to hold peace talks for the 2nd time without any restriction.

They also discussed that the New Mon State Party constantly walks on the path aiming to achieve peace in the entire nation and solving the situations of discord arising from politics through political way. In response to the discussion, the Senior General explained that politically, parliament (Hluttaw) is the highest in the democratic system and the ethnic people must participate more in the parliament of the political podium for asking the rights of their regions in line with the law.

In analyzing the parties, there are the party based on politics and the parties representing the region as well as the ethnicity. He said that it needs to looks forward for the interest of the Union with the union spirit rather than one party alone. They then exchanged views on peace affairs and regional development. After the meeting, the Senior General presented commemorative gifts to the Vice Chairman of the NMSP and party.

The peace delegation led by the NMSP Vice Chairman will hold talks with the Peace Talks Team and the National Unity and Peace-making Negotiation Committee that was formed by the State Administration Council.
