Paying homage: Shwegyin Nikaya Chairman Sayadaw passed away

The State Ovadacariya Chairman of Shwegyin Nikaya Dhipati Presiding SayadawDhammaSenapati 15th ShwegyinSangharajaBhaddantaVijjota of Vijjotayon Monastery in Mayangon Town­ship of Yangon Region passed away on Sunday.

State Administration Coun­cil Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min AungHlaing and his wife DawKyuKyuHla, accompanied by SAC Member and Secre­tary, Union Minister Re­ligious Affairs and Culture, the Yangon Re­gion Chief Minister and senior military officers paid homage to the body of late Sayadaw.

First, the Senior General and party paid homage to Shweg­yinNikayaUpa Chairman MahaNayaka Joint ShwegyinSangha­raja Chancellor of Sitagu World Buddhist Academies SitaguSayadawBhadd­antaNyanissara and donated 10 million kyats to organize the final rites of late Sayadaw.

Then, they paid homage to the remains of late Sayadaw and instructed the necessary things regarding the final rites. They listened to the ser­mons delivered by the SitaguSayadaw, sharing merits gained and signing in the Sanvega re­cord book.

The ShwegyinNikayaDhi­pati Chairman Sayadaw was born in Mudon Township in Mon State on the 7th Waxing of Taboung 1291 ME. The Sayadaw completed the Dip.BD and SasanaDhajaSiriPavaraDhammasariyaSi­yawmani and taught the Bud­dhist literature to the monks and novices at Vijjawtayon Monastery.

For continuous efforts in the religious sector, the gov­ernment conferred AbhidhajaMahaRattha Guru title to Sayad­aw in 1379 ME and AbhidhajaAggaMahaSaddhammaJoti­kadhaja title in 1382 ME. The Sayadaw passed away at the age of 93 and 73 Vasa on 20 March 2022. The final rites will be held at 1:00 pm on 22 March follow­ing the COVID-19 health rules.
