France rounded off Bastille Day with its traditional firework display at the Eiffel Tower on Sunday. The 30 minute show was dedicated to the "Fete de la Federation", the 1790 national holiday which was celebrated on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, itself seen as the starting gun of the French revolution.

Earlier in the day French President Emmanuel Macron had been driven down the Champs Elysees avenue before watching the annual military parade. This year it honored European defense cooperation and he was flanked by leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
