North-eastern Japan record snow

Aomori Prefecture in northeastern Japan has asked the Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) to send personnel to Aomori City to deal with record snowfall. Prefectural officials made the request as snow accumulation in Aomori City reached 183 centimeters on Sunday.

That’s the fourth highest level ever recorded there. There have also been casualties due to accidents during snow removal. The request filed by the prefecture includes gathering information in Aomori City. It also asks the GSDF to help elderly residents in the city who live alone to remove snow from their roofs.
