North Korea acknowledged its latest missile launch early on Thursday, a day after South Korean authorities first reported it. Pyongyang's state media called it a "hypersonic missile" and said that it travelled 700 kilometres to hit its target, including a 120 kilometre lateral movement.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is not mentioned to have been present at the launch.  The launch came after Kim vowed to further strengthen his military capability at a high-profile ruling party conference last week. North Korea first said it tested a hypersonic missile in September 2021, after Kim included this aim in his speeches at a Party Congress early that year.
