New York City has introduced the first-ever congestion toll in the U.S. to ease traffic in Manhattan's central areas, including Times Square and Wall Street.
Starting on Sunday, passenger vehicles will be charged $9 during the day, with payments automatically collected through road sensors.
The city expects the program to reduce traffic by 10% and use the toll revenue to enhance public transit services.
Taxi passengers will pay an additional 75 cents per trip. The initiative aims to encourage the use of public transit and improve traffic flow in the city.
