New Delhi seeks stronger UNSC political engagement

India has called for a major reset in UN peacekeeping, with a focus on restraint, impartiality and consent, highlighting eight concrete proposals aimed at strengthening the global peacekeeping architecture.

Speaking at the United Nations debate on Peacekeeping Operations, India’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni outlined key priorities for making peacekeeping missions more effective, accountable and representative. 

Ambassador called for sustained political engagement by the UN Security Council alongside every peacekeeping mandate. New Delhi further advocated rationalising missions to preserve their credibility, while accelerating the use of technology and renewable energy in peacekeeping operations.India also reaffirmed its support for continued and enhanced participation of women peacekeepers.
