Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his “unwavering support” of Israel and backed Witkoff’s ceasefire proposal aimed at securing the release of hostages held by Hamas.

“Donald Trump is the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House,” Netanyahu said in an address posted on his X account, highlighting U.S. military aid and diplomatic backing. The Israeli leader confirmed that Israel has accepted an initiative led by Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, to extend a temporary ceasefire in Gaza by 50 days.

Under the plan, half of the hostages would be released immediately, while the rest would be freed if a permanent ceasefire agreement is reached. The Israeli leader also thanked the US president for the weapons and ammunition delivery that will give “Israel the tools we need to finish the job against Iran’s terror axis.”
