Nepal mudslide death toll surges to 903, 4,200 still missing

Nepal's latest confirmed death toll surpasses 900, with around 4,200 people still missing, the Foreign Ministry reported, six days after a tsunami-like surge of glacial water, rocks, and debris roared down from the China-Nepal border, devastating villages and towns.

Nepali Prime Minster Balendra Shah in a statement on Sunday called the disaster "unimaginable and heartbreaking". Rescue teams are in a race against time in treacherous conditions to free around 100 hydropower workers believed trapped in multiple tunnels -- digging, drilling and blasting through debris in a non-stop effort supported by teams from China, India and South Korea.
