NDSC announcement: Declaration of State of Emergency extended further six months

National Defence and Security Council [NDSC] issued an announcement No 2/2022 signed by the Pro Term President U Myint Swe on 31st July. The announcement states that the National Defence and Security Council held a meeting on the State of Emergency on Sunday.

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing made explanations on the work implementations for 5-point Road Map of the State Administration Council after declaration the State of Emergency, efforts for stability of the state and community peace, meetings with the Ethnic Armed Organizations, destructive acts committed by the various terrorist groups including PDF under the instructions by NUG.

In order for the country to get back to the path of peaceful, discipline multi-party democracy system and to hold the multi-party general election in accordance with the Section 425 of the State Constitution, the Senior General submitted a report to extend the declared period for the State of Emergency across the nation.

Members of the National Defence and Security Council seconded the submissions of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services. Then, all Council members, including the Pro Term President, unanimously decided to extend further six months of the declared period of the State of Emergency across the nation under Section 425 of the Constitution.

The meeting was attended by Pro Term President U Myint Swe, Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw U T Khun Myat, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Union Minister for Defence General Mya Tun Oo, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, speciually invited Secretary of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe, and Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo. Vice-President U Henry Van Thio asked for a leave of absence due to health condition.
