NDMA launches mobile disaster alert system in India

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) launched mobile-based disaster communication system on Saturday. The system was unveiled at the Annual Conference 2026 of Relief Commissioners from States and Union Territories in New Delhi.

The system has been developed by the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, in collaboration with the NDMA, to ensure the timely dissemination of critical information to citizens. The system has been extensively utilized by disaster management authorities, enabling the dissemination of over 134 billion SMS alerts to date in more than 19 Indian languages during natural disasters, weather warnings, and cyclonic events.
