Natural disaster management training: MoSWRR Union Minister addressed opening ceremony

The Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Thet Thet Khine gave a remark at the opening ceremony of Myanmar Disaster Response Team Training (Batch-5) held at the meeting hall of the Department of Disaster Management in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 20th March.

In her remark, the Union Minister said that the training is giving mainly focusing on the representatives from the ministries and departments which are responsible for the tasks of work committees under the National Natural Disaster Management Committee with the aim at the development of the natural disaster management human resources from the ministries which are carrying out the union level natural disaster management.

Like the regional organization of ASEAN-ERAT, the effort was initiated in 2020 to be able to form Myanmar Disaster Response Team with the collaboration of ASEAN Secretariat and AHA Centre to be able to level up the national level emergency responses at the time of natural disaster broke out.

The curriculum of Myanmar Disaster Response Team –MDRT which is conformed to the country’s procedures and the disaster condition was drafted based on the ASEAN-Emergency Response and Assessment Team- ASEAN-ERAT. The Myanmar Disaster Response Team Training (Batch- 1 and 2) was conducted in Rakhine State in 2021 and the Training (Batch- 3 and 4) in Kachin State in 2022 etc.

The Myanmar Disaster Response Team Training (Batch- 5) will be conducted for 6 days from 20th to 25th March. Next, the Union Minister, Deputy Minister and officials inspected pre schools under the department of social welfare in Nay Pyi Taw and gave necessary instructions. Then, the Union Minister and party inspected the head officer’s office of the Nay Pyi Taw Diaster Management Department, met with the personnel and gave words of encouragement.

Afterward, the Union Minister and party visited Nay Pyi Taw children nurturing center, supplimented necessary suggestions on the status of nurturing the children and the teaching and training for the comprehensive development and gave words of encouragement for the staff.
