National Committee Meeting : Discussion on the rights of Persons with Disabilities

Union Minister at the Ministry (4) of the President’s Office U Tun Ohn and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win attended the National Committee Meeting on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on Thursday.

Union Minister U Tun Ohn emphasized the government's commitment to inclusion, equality, and dignity for persons with disabilities (PWDs), especially during emergencies and natural disasters. He called for inclusive development, access to voting in upcoming elections, and support for education, employment, and social participation. Union Minister Dr. Soe Win also noted that 12% of the population are PWDs, based on 2019 census data.

He discussed ongoing efforts for disability registration, disability classification, and emergency support for PWDs affected by the recent Mandalay earthquake. The meeting also included updates from the Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities and others on challenges faced by PWDs and the need for inter-ministerial collaboration to ensure equal rights and support systems for all.
